Kendall’s birth story written by her Momma..
I started having pretty frequent contractions on Thursday April 9th (which happened to be Kinley’s birthday). On Friday we took her to the zoo and had to leave early because I was having contractions every 10 minutes. I went home relaxed and had a pretty lazy weekend and they resolved. Tuesday I was off work with Kinley and started contracting again in the evening and just thought I had over done it so I went to bed to sleep them off. At this point I was only 36 weeks pregnant so I figured we still had a couple weeks and wanted a couple weeks to let this baby grow. At 1 am I woke up in discomfort and within a half hour realized I was having contractions every 2 minutes. In complete denial I took a shower to try to relax and laid around contracting every 2 minutes until 5am when we headed to the hospital. We arrived at Dublin Methodist at 5:30am and I was 6cm dilated. I immediately cried because I have seen many 36 week premies spend time in the NICU with breathing problems in my career. I quickly got that cry out of the way and then the nurse shared with me that the baby was also breech so they were going to get me to the OR for a c-section at 7am, hopefully before my water broke. Tears again. Absolutely nothing wrong with a c-section, just a surprise. So there we were, 7am OR, Kendall arrived at 7:40am. We didn’t know what we were having although I thought the whole time it was a girl. Chris got to announce from behind the curtain. Her head/shoulder was stuck under my ribs and Chris said it was brutal the way they had to pull her legs to get her out. She now has some nice battle wounds (bruises) to show for that. But we are completely smitten and so happy to meet our 6lb 10 oz baby girl. Kinley (2yrs old) was so sweet when she first met her. Gifts, lots of hugs and sweet kisses. We enjoyed this moment more than I could ever have imagined. Our hearts are full and our family now feels complete. Thank you Crystal Jo for documenting yet another special moment in our life!
JT. Newborn.
Some fun facts about this new (BIG) peanut…
Tell us about that first moment when you saw your baby.
When my doctor placed him on my chest all I could think was “Wow! He IS a big baby!” JT had been measuring full term since 37 weeks. When he was born, the cord was wrapped two times around his neck and he was “stunned” (meaning his body was in shock from delivery) so he was blue. He came to quickly but all I could think was “Wow, he’s bigger than our first!!” I was also excited to see that he had strawberry blonde hair!!
What was your baby’s birth weight and length?
8 pounds 14 ounces
20 1/5 inches tall
Is there a story behind your baby’s name?
JT stands for “James Thomas” which is a family name on Kyle’s side of the family. JT is actually the fourth to be named James Thomas Butler… JT shares his name his uncle, great-grandfather and great-great-great grandfather. We chose to call him JT due to already having a Jim, Jimmy and James in our extended family already.
Give us the scoop. What has surprised you the most about parenthood? Are there any funny stories or firsts that you’d like to share?
It’s definitely different having two children now. The biggest surprise is how much energy I have on such little sleep! I forgot what the first month with sleepless nights was like with a newborn – but when you have a 2-year old to also take care of, your body kind of rallies to give you the energy to make it to that one golden nap time each day when everyone can get some sleep
Another surprise is just how much you are capable of loving. When you find that special someone and get married you think “wow, I’ve never loved so much.” Then you hold your first child, and although it may be a different type of love, you still think it’s impossible to feel love any stronger. With our second child here now, I have just felt my heart grow even more

Some fun facts about Miss A.
What is your favorite memory during her first year of life?
Daddy: Getting home from the hospital and everyone coming to see her for the first time
Mommy: Definitely not able to choose a single memory, but getting home from the hospital and everyone coming to see her for the first time was quite amazing. Experiencing her first smiles, and now her cheesy crinkled-nose smile that she loves to make, hearing her say ‘mama’ and ‘dada’ for the first times, her love of bath time, the excitement she gets when she sees her family and friends. Her awesome dance moves, the sound she makes when she gives kisses, the look on her face when we greet her in the nursery each morning. Cradling her in our arms, singing her songs before bedtime and soaking up every moment of it, as we know it won’t last forever. The first year of her life has been absolutely amazing and we can’t wait to watch her sweet, spunky personality grow!
Do you have a funny story or something that happened in her first year that you’d like to share?
Not sure we can pick just one funny story, but Adeline has such a fun personality and she loves to play, laugh and talk loudly. She’s the baby in church that ‘sings’ during the sermon and the baby at Roosters who laughs at the waitress. She is always full of excitement!
What age/month has been your favorite and why?
It’s hard to just pick one age, as each month has been joyful in its own way (and we’ve learned just how quickly 12 months can go!). Watching her grow and learn new things each day has been such a wonderful experience for Jared and me. It’s so exciting to watch her reach new milestones; these past few months have been so fun to watch her show affection by kissing and giving hugs, be very adventurous by walking and climbing, and being in awe at her ability to comprehend things we say and do. Currently, my favorite ‘achievement’ of hers is showing us where her belly is, and telling us how a cow goes!
One word to describe your baby is… Happy!
Favorites…
Animal: Definitely her doggies! Adeline loves to get ‘kisses’ from her 2 dogs, Sloopy and Griffey. She loves to laugh at Sloopy and yell for Griff (saying ‘Gifffff’) at the backdoor.
Food: Miss Adeline loves all kinds food! Favorites are peas & green beans, and she also loves cheese and baked beans.
Toy: Adeline really enjoys play time! She loves her John Deere riding/push tractor, her pink Radio Flyer tricycle (and anyone who will push her around on it!), her ‘Adeline’ chair (because she LOVES to climb!), anything that makes a noise she can dance to, and anything in the kitchen (dishwasher, cabinets, drawers).
